Accessibility Information

Black Cat Tattoo strives to offer a safe, clean and inviting space to be tattooed in. This section will outline our accessibility information as well as our policies regarding masks, clean air, and how we want to make our space as inclusive and safe as possible. Many of our team and clientele are high risk or disabled, and we want to make sure our shop ensures the safety and well being of the community. Thank you for reading and respecting our policies.

Masks

Black Cat Tattoo is a mask mandatory space. We ask that all artists, guest artists and clients wear a mask when in the shop. Masking is the best possible way to prevent air borne illness, such as COVID-19. We prefer folks wear high quality masks such as KN95, N95, FFP2, FFP3, KF94, but other disposable masks are accepted. If you forget to bring a mask to your appointment, we have some we can offer to you for a small donation. Masking is especially important during the cold weather months when more people are inside and air borne illnesses can spread easier. We also ask that masks be worn properly, i.e. tightly over the nose, not under. The mouth and nose should be sealed under the mask, nothing poking out. If you need help with your mask or are unsure if it is on correctly, any of our artists will be happy to assist. You may remove your mask to drink or eat a snack during the appointment, but at all other times, your mask should be securely on.

Clean Air and Scent policies

Black Cat Tattoo uses several air purifiers with HEPA filters in our space to ensure the air is being cleaned efficiently. Our space is on the larger side, but we ask clients to refrain if possible from bringing a friend into the tattoo procedure. This helps us make sure our space isn’t becoming overcrowded. If you need a support person for your appointment, please make sure to discuss this with your artist before the appointment. We are happy to accomodate any needs, we would just like to have notice.

To ensure our space is welcoming to everyone, we ask that clients do not come in wearing strong perfumes, colognes or other scented sprays. We use unscented soaps and other cleaning/disinfection solutions where we can to ensure the space is free of strong smells. If you are concerned about this, please contact your artist before the appointment to discuss.

Policy for people with symptoms

If you are showing signs of any illness, specifically an air borne one (cold, covid-19) please contact yuor artist and reschedule your appointment. We want our staff (and their families) as well as other clients in the space to be safe from illness. Staying home when you are visibly sick helps stop the spread of air borne illness, and keeps our vulnerable communities safe. If you experience allergies, please let your artist know this in case you are sneezing or coughing during the appointment.

What our space does not provide

Our space has limitations regarding accessibility, we will do our best to accomodate all needs. If you have any concerns, questions or want to disclose a disability or accessibility issue, please discuss with your artist before your appointment or booking.

No Street Access: Black Cat is located on the second level and has a steep staircase to climb. Due to the high cost of stair chair, we are unable to provide one. There are also another few steps from our waiting room to our tattoo area. If you have issues with stairs, or mobility in general, we can try to find another shop to accommodate your appointment, please talk to your artist well before you appointment to discuss.

Sign Language Interpreters: We do not provide a sign language interpreter for individuals with impaired hearing. We are happy to accomodate in other ways.

Room Volume: There are several artists and guest artists working at Black Cat on any given day, thus the volume of the space can fluctuate. We do play music and our machines can be quite noisy. If you have sound sensitivities, please let your artist know beforehand so we can accommodate the space. We encourage clients to bring headphones to counteract any excess noise pollution we cannot control.

Private Rooms: We do not have private rooms at Black Cat. We do have room dividers that can offer more privacy. If you are anxious about privacy, please talk to yuor artist and we will make sure to schedule on a day when less folks are in the shop, use room dividers for more privacy and let other staff and clients in the space know.

Thank you from everyone at Black Cat Tattoo
